Co-Own RedTeddies

RedTeddy Co-Owners

While most RedTeddy puppies are born on our RedTeddy Ranch in Upstate, NY, we also work with a tight-knit community of co-owners who hand raise our puppies in home settings. All our co-owners are vetted families and individuals we know and trust, with living situations that are optimal for a RedTeddy Poodle. These homes differ greatly in detail; what they have in common is an enduring love for their RedTeddy and endless energy and enthusiasm for raising puppies the right way.  And, each co-owner brings something special and unique that improves the early education of their puppies; each is truly a unique and special asset to our program.

Are you interested in being a Red Teddy Co-owner?

A co-owner shares ownership of a female Toy or Miniature Poodle with RedTeddy. We will get to know you and inspect ypur home and the quality of life you imagine for both your RedTeddy parent dog(s) and future puppies, to see if we are a good fit. Your RedTeddy must pass testing requirment, be fed a high quality- preferably raw or home made diet, and be kept in excellent condition in a wholesome, loving and friendly home. A co-owning family visits RedTeddy at least once or twice a year for 3 - 6 years at breeding times. After she retires around age six, she will continue to be your personal family pet. Co-owners may have other animals, but not male dog(s) unless they are RedTeddy studs or are neutered. We look for families who have a lifestyle that includes lots of love, stability, space (indoors and out) and excitement for their dog and puppies.
Willingness to share the miracle of puppies is just part of the process of being a co-owner:  Each co-own family brings something unique to the lives of their RedTeddy and the future puppies. For example, some of our co-owners have farms with farm animals their dogs bond and play with. One lives on an orchard with acres and acres of space to run, roam and explore. Others have kids or grandchildren to play with them everyday. One of our co-owner families has a daycare (imagine the fun and the terrific learning experience for the little children and the puppies!). Some are retired and bring their RedTeddies on daily adventures, hikes, trips and to second homes: All consider their RedTeddys as essential family members.
Co-own puppies come to the RedTeddy Ranch around six weeks to get to know our pack and how to behave around big and small dogs of different ages. (Exceptions can be made with input from the future family, depending on where they live). Co-owners of female dogs receive 50% of the sale of their dog's puppies. The potential income should more than cover the costs of a high quality diet, grooming, and veterinary bills.        We help you every step of the way.

*Note about rescues: Please, if you can, then certainly rescue a puppy or even better, an adult with health or behavior problems and/or is at risk of euthanasia in a shelter. Before you commit and pay money to any rescue organization, make sure you are actually rescuing a dog in peril.
Many fake rescue organizations are popping up all over to fulfill the desire of people who want to 'do the right thing'. These new "rescue operations" are becoming more and more prevalent in the North East where there are effective dog ordinances that prevent over population (there is a shortage of shelter dogs and puppies in the North East). They are for-profit businesses that exist to make money by transporting dogs and puppies from the South and Midwest, where, due to lax laws, there is an abundance of "unwanteds", up to the affluent markets in the North East. They maximize the profit of each trip by filling their vans buying at livestock auctions sold by puppy mills. This is where puppy brokers get their puppies, too! There is little difference between this type of 'rescue' business and a puppy broker; together they are maintaining the income stream for puppy mill operators and breeders who, for obvious reasons you would never want to support if you were able to actually visit, cannot sell their pups to the general public and especially not you, someone who does their homework and is willing to take the time to meet the breeder.  Do your homework before signing up with a rescue operation.
