BOARD & TRAIN You may want our trainer to begin training your puppy, or maybe you cannot pick up your puppy when he or she is ready to leave. In either case, Board & Train is an excellent option! Board & Train starts teaching important skills using only positive reinforcement, praise and treats. Puppies work with our professional trainer on skills including crate training, sit-come-stay, socialization with other dogs and real-world situations, house training, getting used to a leash (for more advanced puppies) and more. Every puppy is different - none will completely master all these skills at their young age: Board & Train gives them a foundation, you and all your family members must continue the training at your home for your puppy not to regress - Our trainer will show you how. In addition, you may contact the trainer with questions via text after your puppy comes home for an additional three hours of advice and follow up. Board & Train families receive frequent texts regarding interactions with your puppy, and our trainer will take time during puppy pick up to show off your puppies accomplishments. The trainer will demonstrate how to get the best out of your puppy using the commands, body language and treats they are used to. You will also receive a review of your puppy’s potty, feeding and bedtime schedule in a printed format that you can refer to after you bring your puppy home. Board & Train begins the first day after your puppy turns eight weeks. Space is limited. Reservations can be for one day, all the way to three weeks. Our bigger Minis and Moyens require more attention as they are bigger and stronger, easier to get into more mischief. The daily fee for our Toys and small Minis (puppies that are under six pounds at age eight weeks) is $50 per day week one, week two is $60 per day and week three is $70/day. Bigger puppies are $60, $70 and $80/per day, respectively.
Additional half-hour long training sessions via Zoom can be scheduled for $50 per session while your puppy is here with our trainer, BOARD & TRAIN PRESCHOOL: Your puppy may be enrolled in Board & Train Preschool starting at seven weeks. This new program is highly recommended for our larger Minis, Moyen or Doodle puppies. B&T Preschool is a modified training program to reflect the younger age and shorter attention span of younger puppies. It is geared to getting them off to a good start with good behavior at your home if you plan on picking your puppy up at eight weeks (or nine weeks for pups under three pounds), or for our regular B&T program which starts at eight weeks. B&T Preschool emphasizes beginning crate overnight sleeping (not solo), potty training, and beginning obedience. Cost starts at $35 per day. Space is limited, a B&T preschool puppy’s family will receive frequent updates via text, including demonstrations, and a brief synopsis of their puppy’s achievements at puppy pick up. Additional half-hour long training sessions via Zoom can be scheduled after your puppy is at home, $50 per session.
Board & Train in session: These videos show day two, training two puppies to look at the human and obey the command to sit! It is so important that the puppies do not simply identify the command with the trainer but can generalize to obeying the command from others as in the second video. Pups do get one on one time as well. And, for comic relief, Princess Diamond helps the pups learn to open a doggy door and go down a ramp.
Boarding your poodle at Red Teddy
We are located just two hours north of Manhattan, in the beautiful Hudson Valley. RedTeddy puppies and adult dogs who are not aggressive and will fit into our pack may visit for up to one week when their families are away. We offer two levels of boarding, with and without training. If your dog is not fully house trained, is a problem barker or has other negative behaviors, he or she will be enrolled in our Board & Train program for one on one training and encouragement to end the negative behaviors. If your dog is house trained and just needs to spend a few days in a pleasant atmosphere when you are away, he or she will be included for free play with our pack. All dogs eat our home made diet and treats, and are guaranteed hiking, water sports, games appropriate to the season and weather.
The base boarding fee without training is $60/day. Board & Train is $100/day, (If your pup is perfect at home but not so much here, they may be moved to B&T without notice)
Grooming and pick up & delivery services available. We are a full house of dogs, cats and people. For this reason, we require your vet's contact info and to know if your dog has bitten or hurt another animal or a human, before we agree to board him/her. No female dogs who are in season are accepted. **Requires a recent kennel cough vaccine, Rabies certificate, and a recent vet statement of health**
