What are '...doodles' and why are they looked down on?
'Poodle purists' and the American Kennel Club object to all doodles. However, ethical breeders are always striving to create a healthier puppy and a better dog. Keep in mind the AKC is not 100% about creating healthy dogs - that is the responsibility of the individual breeder. The AKC recognizes many breeds that are by nature unhealthy, for example, brachycephalic breeds with short nosed and flat faced dogs all have breathing issues. And, the AKC does not endorse individual breeders: they are not equipped to inspect all breeders, though they have inspected RedTeddy (we passed). For the AKC to dismiss out of hand all '...doodles' as deleterious to the Poodle breed is disingenuous: interbreeding of purebred dogs is and has always been the process of developing new dog breeds. The AKC recognized 25 "new" breeds in the last ten years alone! These new breeds are mixes (like doodles) created by ethical breeders seeking new and unique qualities by carefully breeding different breeds of purebred dogs, with a lot of genetic and other health testing as well as time and expertise. Furthermore, all dogs with pedigrees are by definition from a LIMITTED GENE POOL. This is why ethical breeders test for genetic diseases more frequent in pure bred dogs. . Redteddy Poodles are AKC and UKC purebred dogs. We are also considering working toward creating a unique line of Fox Red Lab - Doodles. If successful, our F2 line would have a coat that is lower maintenance than a typical small Standard Poodle yet still hypoallergenic, on a very sturdy and intelligent adult dog. Should RedTeddy move ahead with our Fox Red labradoodle line, we guarantee that we will do so in an ethical and science based manner. Redteddy puppies are registrable with either AKC or UKC (unless we specifically state the pup is not registrable). The registration papers are for the families to complete, with the name of their puppy and a small fee. The papers we provide are for "closed" registrations. This means that our puppies are being sold as family pets, and not as animals to be used for breeding whose offspring would be registrable with AKC or UKC. |

Poodles come in three size varieties: Standards should be more than 15 inches tall at the shoulder; Miniatures are 15 inches or under; Toys stand no more than 10 inches. All three varieties have the same build and proportions.
